Importance of the Certification

The IT industry operates in a sea of continuous change. Each day sounds the death sentence to older technologies while newer ideas take shape. This is triggered by the ever-changing nature of electronics and is a reason for the perennial development of device drivers. Writing device drivers is one of the most popular skill sets that the IT industry seeks at large. With the proliferation of Open Source tools and technologies, the Linux Operating System gaining significance is much sought after. In this regard, Linux Device Drivers is creating many more avenues for employment.

Awarding certification in a highly dynamic domain is a challenge and in this regard, limited programs have been instituted this far. All the same, there is an urgent requirement that the industry is able to gauge its employee's expertise in the subject. Through this certification, C-DAC seeks to award candidates, a grading; based on their expertise in the constructs that Linux provides to develop device drivers. Having sound knowledge in the internals of the Linux kernel is the most important requirement to write good device drivers. As the hardware changes every day, the driver constructs in Linux remain more or less the same and is a mandatory requirement, which will be evaluated through this certification.
